Volunteering
Audiologists in Australia
are invited to volunteer their services for 2-3 weeks, to travel
and provide training for local health workers in hearing assessment
and diagnosis, the making and fitting of ear moulds and hearing
aids, and rehabilitation techniques.
In return for their volunteer services the audiologist has a unique
opportunity to visit a developing country and experience life there,
not as a tourist but as a guest of the local people.
The audiologist can work in co-operation with other established
health, aid and volunteer organisations. It is also an opportunity
for the audiologist to consolidate their clinical expertise in finding
inventive and effective ways of overcoming different issues due
to limited resources, different climates and different cultural
issues. Overall, working as an audiologist in a developing country
can be a challenging yet very rewarding experience.
Volunteers have travelled to Working with Ears
Inc. and Cambodia.
Requirements
EARS Inc requires volunteering audiologists to be full members <link>
of the organisation and to uphold the EARS Inc Statement of Belief
<link>. Associate membership is available for audiologists
who wish to support the work of EARS Inc but do not feel they can
accept the Statement of Belief.
