Fiji Update

My fifth visit to the Fiji project this year was at the end of September until the 1st Oct. During this trip we began FM Training for the staff and fitting of the FM devices. These are devices a child with a hearing aid can use in addition to their hearing aid to allow a child to hear the teacher clearer. The teacher wears a transmitter and the student with hearing aids wears a receiver- this means as the teacher moves around the child always hears the teacher like they are close by.

The highlight for me was at the fitting of one of the students for his FM system.

He was attending the centre from school with a few other students. A young girl who had her FM fitted previously had a device was also with them I got her to help me to instruct him and his teacher. She got very involved and by the end this shy child who normally does not like to use her voice, was speaking into the FM device to her friend and he got excited about using this device in school.
